Are you thinking of starting your own business or have you already successfully done so in the Region of Murcia? It that’s the case, the Columbus Project—which operates within the framework of the Erasmus programme for young entrepreneurs—might interest you. The project is coordinated by FILSE S.p.A. (Italy) and it counts on the participation of business organizations from United Kingdom, Finland, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain. The Fundación Universidad Empresa de la Región de Murcia (FUERM) and the Centro Europeo de Empresas e Innovación de Murcia (CEEIM) manage the project in the Region of Murcia.

The Erasmus Young Entrepreneurs programme is an EU initiative which:
- Offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from a more experienced businessman who manages a SME (Small or Medium-sized Enterprise) in another EU country.
- Allows entrepreneurs and experienced businessmen to exchange experiences.
- Facilitates access to new markets and the search for potential trade partners.
- Reinforces links between businessmen and SMEs.
- Allows more experienced businessmen to develop new trade relations and to learn more about business opportunities in another EU country.

Who can take part?
Entrepreneurs with the firm intention of starting their own business...
Entrepreneurs with the firm intention of starting their own business or those who have created one within the last three years, and experienced businessmen who own or manage a SME in the EU.

What does the project offer?
The project offers entrepreneurs in the Region of Murcia the chance to educate themselves ...
The project offers entrepreneurs in the Region of Murcia the chance to educate themselves and/or work for a period of between two and three months with an experienced businessman in a SME within the EU.
An economic grant to cover part of your travel costs, stay and maintenance is provided via the project.
The entrepreneur will acquire the necessary SME creation and management knowledge from an experienced businessman in the receptor country in the following areas:
- Basic success factors
- Planning efficiency
- Financial and operational management
- Innovative produce and service development
- Marketing & sales best practices
- Other areas of knowledge agreed upon with the experience businessman
The required profile to participate as a receptor businessman is as follows:
- Desire to exchange his experiences with the foreign entrepreneur.
- A fresh business outlook for the young entrepreneur.
- Knowledge of new, previously inexistent, techniques.
- Possible market access for the young entrepreneur via business alliances.
- Market knowledge of the country of interest.
- Possible future partners in other countries.
- Be part of a recognised EU network for future agreements, marketing campaigns, etc.
- To exercise corporate social responsibility.
